Research published by a group of European scientists now indicates that smokers who switch to vaping experience vast improvements in myocardial health. Conversely, smoking even a single tobacco cigarette immediately has immediate negative effects on heart rate, performance indexes, and other cardiovascular biomarkers.
The experiment began with the selection of a diverse group of participants including men, women, smokers, and vapers. To qualify for the program, smokers had to have histories of smoking at least fifteen tobacco cigarettes per day for a minimum of five years. The vaping group needed to be former smokers who had remained completely smoke-free through vaping for at least thirty days.
During the clinical trial, each participant was asked to come into the laboratory to have their myocardial functions monitored, documented, and evaluated. Smokers were given a separate room from the vapers to avoid any possible cross-contamination.
Vaping is 95 percent less harmful than smoking
As each participant smoked or vaped while being hooked up to an echocardiogram machine which collected the biomarker data. They were then asked to either smoke an entire tobacco cigarette or vape for a full seven minutes, depending on their preassigned group.
Smokers were given the same cigarettes, and vapers were provided the same vaping device filled with the same medium-strength e-liquid enhanced with 7ml of nicotine. The statistics of the groups of participants and the cardiovascular biomarkers being measured include the following.
- 76 total members participated: 36 smokers and 40 vapers.
- Both men and women smokers and vapers participated.
- Ages of participants ranged from 30 to 41 years.
- Using the medical echocardiogram machine, the researchers collected the following data pertaining to various myocardial functions. Measurements were collected before, during, and after the experiment for each participant.
- Diastolic Blood Pressure
- Systolic Blood Pressure
- Glucose levels
- Standing Heart Rate
- Diameter of the Left Ventricle (LV)
- LV mass index
- Myocardial performance index estimated by Doppler flow
- Cholesterol levels
- Isovolumetric relaxation time (IVRT)
- IVRT corrected to heart rate (IVRTc)
- And other cardiovascular functions

The researchers’ findings were then compiled into a peer-reviewed paper entitled, Acute effects of using an electronic nicotine-delivery device (electronic cigarette) on myocardial function: comparison with the effects of regular cigarettes which is recently published in the medical journal BMC Cardiovascular Disorders.
After analyzing and comparing the data, the scientists were surprised to discover that the vaping-only group experienced virtually no measurable changes to the many myocardial functions measured. Essentially, their individual heart performances remained basically unchanged before, during, and after vaping.
Conversely, the smokers experienced increased significant adverse effects in nearly every biomarker category as soon as they started smoking. The negative effects also lingered well after they stopped. The co-authors of the study offer the following conclusions.
“This is the first study to examine the acute effects of electronic cigarette use on myocardial function. No adverse effects on LV (left ventricular) myocardial function were observed after using electronic cigarette with nicotine-containing liquid for 7 minutes. On the contrary, significant changes in diastolic function parameters were found after smoking 1 tobacco cigarette.”
“This study provides the first clinical evidence that electronic cigarettes have less acute adverse effects on myocardial function when compared to tobacco cigarettes.”

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has spent years trying to fearmonger the American public into thinking that smoking and vaping are equally as hazardous to one’s health. Together with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, GA, they have even tried to convince Americans that the “vaping related” lung disorder inappropriately named EVALI (E-cigarette or Vaping Product Use-Associated Lung Injury) is actually caused by conventional nicotine-based vapes. But in a February 25 press release, the FDA finally had to admit publicly that the mysterious respiratory order is actually caused by tainted THC-containing cartridges sold on the Black Market.
In a survey conducted by the Georgia State University Tobacco Center of Regulatory Science in March of last year, researchers further found that a whopping 45 percent of Americans wrongly believe that vaping is just as deadly as smoking. Thanks to research conducted by the Europeans including the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom, the world now knows that vaping is at least 95 percent less harmful than smoking.
